Julian Bennett

I am very lucky to have been at Bilkent Archaeology when Prof. Bennett was here. He was a very colorful person with his jokes, easygoing presence, and socks in sandals. It was always a pleasure to take courses from him or just to see him in the department hallway. I will be forever grateful for his support when I decided to pursue archaeology and his sincere concern for our shared knee pains.

Prof. Bennett, I promised you to return the book I borrowed from you in a couple of days, but I guess I'll be holding on to it from now on. Rest in peace.

çok üzgünüm, bu hiç bir zaman duymak istemeyeceğim bir haberdi, hiç bir şekilde yakıştırmıyorum Mr. Bennett’a bu gidişi…
2010 yılında ilk dersimizde aksanını anlamaya çalışırken bildiğim tüm ingilizceyi unuttuğumu sanmıştım☺️Onun üzerine o kadar çok ders aldım ki, mezun olana kadar her dönem açılan tüm derslerini hevesle beklerdim, hatta gönüllü olarak girdiğim dersleri bile oldu, her anlattığı şeyi merakla dinlerdim. Bugün arkeoloji mesleğim değil, ancak sayesinde o kadar kültür dolu hissediyorum ki kendimi. Her zaman o şirin kravatları, sandaletlerinin içine giydiği rengarenk çorapları, efsane güzel aksanı, neşeyle bakan gözleriyle kalbimde, tüm üniversite anılarımda yaşayacak.

I took his class last year and he was a fun and kind professor. I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

Receiving such news has deeply affected me. Besides being my teacher, he was someone I truly loved and admired for his joy and high energy. I will always remember him...I am very sad. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Professor Bennett was a wonderful soul with a constant smile, incredible sense of humor, and a very positive attitude towards his students. I will miss him so much. Rest in peace, Professor Bennett.

It is with deep sadness for Bilkent family. I am sure his great efforts and success will always be a quide to young generation. My heartfelt condolences to Bilkent family and may God give peace to the soul.

Canım hocam, güleç, esprili ve harika bir insandınız. Bölümdeki ilk dersimi sizden almıştım ve hayatıma yön vermeme yardım eden çok özel birisiniz. Yalnızca bizler değil dünya arkeoloji camiası da çok büyük bir kayıp verdi. Başımız sağolsun. Umarım orada mutlusunuzdur ❤️

I will always remeber your big smile every morning walking down the Bilkent lojmans. I wish you sleep in peace. We will miss you!

I am so lucky to know Mr. Bennett. He was one of the first faculty members I met in Bilkent and I had the chance to be his assistant. I remember his projects and how eager he was when it's all archaeology. He was a jolly man who made everyone around him jolly as well. Rest in peace, sir!

Kendisinden 15 yıl önce giriş seviyesinde Arkeoloji dersi almıştım. Çok kibar bir insan olduğunu hatırlıyorum. Ders giriş seviyesi olmasına rağmen çok özen göstermişti. Mısır'da iç karışıklıklar başlamasaydı, Mısır seyahati yapacaktık. O zamandan beri kendisini zaman zaman düşünürüm. Kaybettiğimize çok üzüldüm

Lisans eğitimim boyunca gülümseyerek hatırladığım kıymetli hocam canımız Julian.. Seni, yüksek enerjini, çizgi film karakterli çoraplarını ve kravatlarını, güler yüzünü hiç unutmayacağım…
Hocam dediğimiz zaman “bana Julian diyebilirsiniz” diye gülümserdin. Akademik danışmanım olduğun zamanlarda her zaman sevgi ve ilgiyle sorunlarıma çözüm üretirdin. Seni çok özleyeceğiz…

Ich werde Ihren Stil, Ihren Lieblingssandalen und -socken, perfekten Akzent und das Lächeln in Ihrem Gesicht nie vergessen. In 2001 I had Civilizations and Cities course from Julian. I keep remembering what I learned in his lovely course. I wish condolences to his family and students.
