Thank you for introducing me and my friends to computer science, and making us love it. I’ll always remember how you explained what an algorithm is by teaching us how to change a tire. The perspective we developed thanks to your teachings will help us a lifetime. RIP

David was one of the first instructors I met on my first year, like many other CS/EE students. It was very fun to listen to the concepts of 'how to think like in computers' and I believe the way he thought the basics has so much contribution to how I think and sometimes teach fresh software engineers.

Thank you so much for these wonderful years, you will be missed deeply...

David was a warm human being and an avid intellectual with an interest in philosophy. He was a constant presence in our events at the philosophy department. He will be dearly missed...

I had a chance to meet with David Hoca in CS101 class(2011). I distinctly remember that class. I felt privileged to be able to take his class. Being top on what you do is a rare occurrence and he was at the top. I will remember him with great respect. My condolences David Hoca's family.

David Davenport was the first person to introduce so many to coding. I was lucky to be one of those people. I remember waiting for my first CS101 class to start, wide-eyed and excited. He walked in with his enthusiasm and bright presence. There was not a lecture where I felt he gave less than 100%. His creative and down-to-earth ways of teaching will always be remembered. I still remember so much of what he taught me 7 years ago. He encouraged his students to achieve their potential. He encouraged me when I really doubted myself. He was more than an instructor to me. He was a dear friend that always made time to talk, answer questions, or engage in a philosophical discussion. No matter how busy he was, he always stopped for a chat when we would pass each other by. In the middle of a pandemic and a very busy school year, he even made time to attend my masters thesis defense on video conference. His legacy will pass on through the many students he taught during his time at Bilkent. I hope we will make you proud. We will miss you so dearly, David. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. God bless his soul. May He rest in peace.

Sevgili David,

Allah rahmet eylesin sana, 2013 CS101 TA'in Emir Yılkıcı.
