Bilkent Üniversitesi Uluslararası İlişkiler ve Tarih bölümlerinde yirmi
yılı aşkın bir süredir ders veren Profesör Norman Stone'u kaybetmiş
olmanın derin üzüntüsü içindeyiz. Norman Stone çağdaş tarih
literatürünün en önemli isimlerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir.
Prof. Stone Cambridge ve Oxford üniversitelerinde görev yaptıktan
sonra, 1997 yılında Bilkent Üniversitesi'ne katılarak Rusya Çalışmaları
Merkezi’ni kurmuştur. Üniversitemizde geçirdiği yıllarda çeşitli dillere
çevirilen beş kitap ve yüzlerce makale yazmıştır. Kariyeri boyunca,
Prof. Stone İngiltere’de ve Türkiye’de birçok önemli tarihçi
yetiştirmiştir.
We are deeply saddened to have lost Prof. Norman Stone, who served as a faculty member at Bilkent University departments of International Relations and History for over twenty years. Prof. Stone is considered to be one of the most prominent figures in contemporary historical scholarship. After serving as a faculty member at Cambridge and Oxford, Prof. Stone joined Bilkent University in 1997 and established the Center for Russian Studies. During his tenure at our university he published 5 books that were translated to multiple languages and authored hundreds of articles. Throughout his career, Prof. Stone also educated and mentored many prominent historians both in the UK and in Turkey.
